About Me

My name is Becky Goodman. I have been married
to my husband,
David since November 1994. I am the mother of two beautiful daughters Mikayla
(April 1999) and Monica (August 2004). I started my childcare business in
December 2002. Prior to doing childcare, I worked as a School Bus Driver for
eight years. I was having a difficult time finding quality affordable
childcare that opened at five in the morning. I wasn't happy with my provider
for many reasons but didn't feel I had many options most providers didn't
open until six o'clock. I tried looking for
other childcare, and could never find anyone that would fit my budget and
provided quality care. My daughter was two and it just wasn't working, having
a part-time split shift job and paying for full-time childcare so she wasn't
disrupted picking her up and dropping her again for my afternoon shift.
I decided since, I loved working with kids to try childcare. My husband
and I owned a small 1200 sq foot home, we new it would be hard since I didn't
have a playroom like other providers had. I just based my business on what I
was looking for in childcare. A loving caregiver that offered more then
everyone else, a clean home, kid friendly activities with out a TV, organized
structured environment, flexible hours, affordable and most of all dependable!
After a successful two years and we were busting
at the seems. I had been working 24 hours/7days a weeks to compete with all
the other providers in
Gresham. My business was doing well so we started looking for a new
house. We found a 1700 sq foot house, just up the street in the same
neighborhood of North
Gresham. We moved to our new house in July 2004. We stopped working 7
days a week, but still offered extended hours.
Since living in our new house, we have been
working very hard remodeling.
In October 2006, I decided to upgrade my
license from Registered Family to Certified Family Childcare. I was finding
that after doing Registered childcare for four years that, I was getting
lonely without much adult interaction and was feeling a bit burnt out. I loved
childcare and knew I wanted to do this until I retire, so I needed to make
some changes. Upgrading to Certified Family Childcare opened lots of new
doors. I could hire an employee and get help taking care of the children. It
also solved my problem of not getting enough adult socializing. I felt
refreshed, and started providing a Pre-school Program that my assistant and I
prepare during nap. After the first year of Certified Childcare, I decided
the kids needed more space! I convinced my wonderful husband to give me his
garage, so we converted it into a classroom. We now have almost 700 sq feet,
with the playroom and the classroom. I also hired a second employee in 2007.
As we continue to grow and blossom, I am proud to
be celebrating my 8 year Anniversary in December 2010! I want to say Thank-you
to all my families who trust us to provide quality care and believe in us! I
still have clients that have been with me since I opened. We take a lot of
pride in our work and strive to improve and continue to grow with the children
in our care.
Also My husband and I became Foster parents (summer of 2010) to two children
we knew and loved. We had been caring for them in our childcare for a couple
years. DHS contacted us and asked if we would be willing to take them, we
couldn't turn our backs on them! We support that when mom earns them back they
will go home. Until then we are happy to have Madison 4yrs and Jordan 1yrs
stay with us as long as they need too!
Our home is proudly a smoke/drug free and weapon free home. If we have smokers
visit our home they must smoke outside. Our home is set up and decorated in a
is very child friendly space. We painted a mural on the outside wall under the
covered patio. Our playroom and classroom are decorated in colorful child
friendly themes. We are sure you will love!
My husband David, has worked at local company Mutual Materials since 1998. He
works graveyard Tuesday through Thursday. Mikayla goes to Clear Creek Middle
School, and Monica goes to North Gresham Grade School. We love cats, the kids
really enjoy our indoor/outdoor clawfree cats Felicia, Gracie and Sara!
